The Design Corporation are happy to hear that great design still inspires us all.
Creative Review has given top spot to the original Woolmark symbol (designed in the 1960s) on their list of the 20 best logos ever designed. There is certainly a mystery behind the creation of the logo – while Franco Grignani’s graphic style and interest in Op Art suggest he is the designer, officially the work is credited to another Italian, Francesco Saroglia. There has been no trace of Saroglia since, but his name was attached to the entry that won the competition to create the logo for The International Wool Secretariat in 1964.
There are theories that Grignani was a judge on said competition and entered work under a pseudonym, that Saroglia stole Grigani’s work and entered it himself; even that Saroglia created the first sketches of the design using a fork at dinner.

Either way, it is certainly one of the 20th century’s great logo designs and we are privileged to be involved with working on tweaks to The Campaign for Wool (CFW) Green logo, P.O.S., brochures and marketing materials.
